Composting: How it Works
Step 1
Food scraps and food-soiled paper are collected.
Step 2
Midwest Fiber Recycling picks up the materials and delivers them to the Illinois State University Farm.
Step 3
Farm employees and ISU students mix the compostable waste with livestock manure with leaf and yard waste from the campus and community.
Step 4
The mixture is then laid out in rows where it ages into a potent fertilizer used by the university and available for purchase by commercial landscaping companies.
